This past Monday, The Southern California hot rodding scene lost someone very dear. Anthony Castaneda was a member of the Shifters, an Orange County based car club whose roots can be traced back to the wave of Kustom Kulture that was revived in the 90s.

According to OC Weekly, Castaneda died when crashing a project truck from his auto shop in Anaheim, California into a parked car off of Lincoln Avenue and West Street. Coroner’s reports indicate that Castaneda died just after 1:30 a.m. Monday morning. The details and possible causes of the accident are still being investigated. A vigil was held for Castaneda at the site of the accident on Monday evening.
Castaneda contributed a great deal towards Southern California’s Kustom Kulture scene and was heavily involved in stimulating its growth. He was an original member of a prominent and well respected car club, owned his own custom auto shop, Loco Moto, and was at one point a co-owner of the Doll Hut, a historic music venue in the heart of Anaheim, California which garnered fame through hosting a number of Rockabilly/Psychobilly acts.
His legacy is preserved by his two daughters, ages 3 and 5. Kevan Sledge, a fellow member of Shifters CC expressed his sadness towards the passing of his long time friend, “He was a great guy, loved by everybody. He made friends from so many different walks of life. It was a big tragedy for a lot of people.”

Rod Authority expresses its deepest condolences towards the family and friends of Anthony Castaneda. You continue to live on through your contributions towards the scene which you loved and the lives you’ve impacted through all your hard work.
