You expect to see vintage beach races on occasion here in the states, but thanks to the Vintage Hot Rod Association (VHRA) of the UK, enthusiasts across the Atlantic are also taking part in old-school racing events like we enjoy here. Take a look at the video above for a little taste of what happened this year at the 2nd Annual Pendine Sands Hot Rod Races, put on by the VHRA.

Last year’s inaugural event on the historic Pendine beach of South Wales garnered more attention than anyone could have expected, resulting in an enthusiast and media craze, as well as an award for The Best Motoring Event of the Year from the International Historic Motoring Awards. No doubt, these VHRA folks know what they’re doing.
So in the spirit of getting out and enjoying classic American cars, the VHRA once again put on their Pendine Sands Hot Rod Races, consisting of heads-up racing in pre-1949 American classics along the ocean front at Pendine.
Unlike last year, this year’s event ran for two days (June 28th and 29th), with racing taking place for about five or six hours each day, depending on the tide. One hundred and thirty competitors showed up for the event, along with countless spectators to take in the old-school beach racing action.
In total, the VHRA welcomed 10 new members into the 100 mph club at their second annual event, as well as saw an amazing 17 class records broke. The leader of the pack, running just 0.16 of a second slower than last year’s winner, Neil Bennett, was Carl Frith in his Model 40 coupe.
The VHRA will have a DVD coming out, which captures all the ins and outs of the 2014 Pendine Sands Hot Rod Races. If you like what you see in the teaser above, be sure to keep an eye out for the full DVD, put together by Ocean Motion Pictures, of this year’s event set to be out soon!
