First introduced along with the 300C, the Dodge Magnum station wagon became something of a cult car, but that wasn’t enough to keep it off the chopping block during the Cerberus Capital occupation of Chrysler in 2007.
Recently, at the SRT product roll out in California, SRT honcho and Chrysler design chief, Ralph Gilles, hinted that the original wagon could make a return.
“With the Magnum, we owned the station wagon segment,” Gilles said in an interview at the at the Willow Springs Raceway event. Gilles had a hand in styling the Magnum and indicated that there is still a lot of appreciation for the hauler within the company.
A resurrection of the Magnum could end up with a rather different vehicle this time around, if Dodge chooses to take on the Cadillac CTS-V wagon. There is a large gap between what the original Magnum was and what the Cadillac currently is, so a showdown might not emerge.
When pressed for further details, Gilles only responded by saying, “Stay tuned. Great things are coming. That’s all I can say.”
