It’s not every day you see a classic 1950 Mercury hotrod like this. Everything about this car is retro and it stands out to be a truly vintage custom job. Not only that, but the round hood and frenched headlights were done by the original king of custom, George Barris.
Every detail on this car is true a tribute to true hotrod heritage.
This ’50 Merc’ belongs to Bobby Rose of Sequim, Washington. It’s powered by a 302 cubic-inch Ford engine with an Edelbrock carburetor and C-4 automatic transmission. “My favorite thing about this car is everything,” Bobby told us. “I had one of these back in the ‘50s so it’s like I’m reliving my childhood.”
It's also setup with Vintage Air for easy climate control.
The car has been completely customized and features interior by John Carr, pinstriping by Skip Kratcher, and an updated audio system by Michael Wright. The door latches are off of a ‘47 Lincoln, the grill is from a ‘’53 DeSoto, the port holes in the hood are from a ’56 Buick, and the hubcaps are off a ‘59 Dodge Lancer. Bobby also added the Appleton 112 spotlights. “Back in the ‘50s, those were the spotlights to have,” he explained.
What do you think of Bobby’s retro hotrod? Do you have a retro inspired custom or one that was built back in the day? If you do, we would absolutely love to see it. Shoot us an email with a few pictures and details of your car, and it may end up as our next Street Feature.
