The street-rod that you see here started life as a simple sedan that wasn’t meant for more than fuel-economy and moderate luxury. Now, it’s powered by an FITech injected small-block 350 cubic-incher, turbo-350 automatic transmission, and Ford 9-inch rearend. This car belongs to Dan Hagen of Hansville, Washington, and he’s had the car for eight years. “I bought this as scrap from a wrecking yard,” he explained. “I only paid $25 for it!”
What you can't see is the Mustang II front suspension system hiding underneath.
Although the car itself was cheap, Dan hasn’t skimped on the build. As you already know it has a rather impressive drivetrain, but it’s also got a show-quality paintjob on it done by Kingston Collision. “Brad and Sean did great work,” Dan told us, praising the work of the folks at Kingston Collision. “I only got it out of the paint shop about two months ago.”
The interior is still in progress, but he does have a passenger seat for it waiting to go in, and when it’s finished it’ll have aluminum door panels and kick panels. He’s also got a 3-bar hotrod style grill in the works. “I would have restored it original, but there wasn’t much left to save,” he explained. “A purist wouldn’t like to see a good car like this cut up, but it would have been too much work to go that route.”
He didn’t plan on taking the build this far, but that’s often the case with unique stuff like this. If everyone stopped where they intended to, we’d have a lot fewer awesome hotrods and streetrods on our street. We’re glad that Dan worked his magic on the Volvo.
What do you think of the fuel injected and small-block powered Volvo that Dan’s put together? Do you have something unusual like this that you’ve built? If you, we definitely want to see it. Shoot us an email with some pictures and we may end up using it in our Street Feature series.
