We always love to see couples that get into the classic auto hobby together. When we were out a couple of weeks ago in Shelton, Washington, we had the pleasure of meeting Frank and Dawn Clark. They each have their own classic vehicle they take to shows: Frank drives his 1966 Chevy Chevelle Super Sport and Dawn drives her 1956 Chevy 3100.
They’ve had their Chevelle for close to twenty years and it has been a long term project. “A buddy had it in his barn covered in bird shit,” Frank told us. “I went to look at his new house and saw it there. I pushed it out, washed it, and called him to ask if he’d sell it to me.” Frank didn’t think it was too bad at the time and started the project with simple intentions, but as things often go in this world, it took a little longer than expected.
We just love the styling of a '66 Chevelle.
“I tore it apart and it took 13 years to finish before I drove it again,” he explained. He stripped the bondo off and replaced all the panels that had any filler. Between its fenders sits the big-block 426 cubic-inch engine that was in the car when Frank bought it. Although originally it originally came with a 396 cubic-incher, keeping the engine it came with was definitely a solid choice.
Now that is a good lookin' engine.
The engine has new heads, roller rockers, and a Holley carburetor. All-in-all, it puts out around 450 horsepower. This Chevelle also features front disc brakes, Flowmaster exhaust, and a Muncie M-22 transmission.
Dawn’s ’56 Chevy truck has been with them since 2013, and it’s a definite show stealer. Beyond just having the stunning purple paint, it’s what’s under the hood and in the cab that make this such a cool ride.
The interior features custom seats, a custom console, air conditioner, and a stunning set of Dakota Digital gauges. The purple and silver tone go just as well on the interior as they do on the exterior, and the shoulder-harness seat belts are a definite plus that we don’t often see on classics like this. The ididit steering column is also a nice touch.
The engine is a 350 cubic-inch small-block Chevy engine with a lopey camshaft for sound, and 700R4 automatic transmission for comfortable cruising and reliability. The running gear sits on an Art Morrison chassis and the ride is cushioned by all around air bag suspension.

The engine is dressed if full Edelbrock gear with the valve covers, air cleaner, and carburetor all from them.
“I’ve wanted a truck for a long time,” Dawn told us. “I actually like the earlier ’50s style, but when we saw this one, and it was purple, it kind of reeled me in.” Dawn is a huge University of Washington Husky fan, and their color is purple, so the color of the truck was ideal for her.
This is just a straight-up well built truck. We'd love to have it in our garage.
We love the Clark’s Chevy duo, it’s a real refresher to see the couple involved in the hobby together. What do you think of their awesome combo? Do you and your other half have a his and hers duo that you’d like to see as part of our Street Feature series? Whether you’ve got two or just one, we’d love to see it. Don’t hesitate to shoot us an email with some pictures and a little information. We’d love to see what our readers are taking to shows.
