Street Feature: Tom Casey’s Bright Yellow ‘54 Ford Custom

1200-76These big trucks often don’t get the attention they deserve. If you see one at a show, it’s likely to be the only one there. This truck took home not one, but two trophies from this year’s Air Affaire in Sequim, Washington. With the fiery color scheme on the outside and equally hot drivetrain on the underside, this truck is ready to go.

Tom Casey of Sequim, Washington, is the owner of this truck, and he comes from a long life in the world of performance cars. Beyond his personal experience in building a Model A Ford and a ’71 Plymouth Barracuda, he was a chief engineer on staff at Lenco transmissions before retiring 10 years ago.

Tom has had this truck for quite a while, but it’s only been on the road for about a year. After doing cars in the past, he decided that he was ready for a truck. He built this with a 302 cubic-inch high performance, solid lifter motor. It’s fueled by a Holley carburetor and features a Ford EOD four-speed transmission that provides an impressive 17 miles per gallon. “I can drive this to California tomorrow,” Tom told us. “It’s totally reliable.”

The engine bay is dressed nicely with blue Moroso valve colors and a color scheme that fits well with the rest of the truck. It also features power steering, a nice thing to include on a vehicle that weighs so much. The interior has seen the addition of shoulder harness seatbelts and Stewart Warner gauges, but for the most part retains a look that isn’t vastly altered from stock.
