A few months ago we reported that a Camaro Z28 was falling victim to a sinkhole in upstate New York. We regret to report that another Camaro has been neglected for the last several years in upstate New York. This time an original 1967 Camaro SS that has spent the last 20 years with an untreated infection of rust made worse by wet, humid summers and extra frigid winters. Thankfully, the car is not trapped in a sinkhole – though it has seen far better days.
Bill has been trying to purchase this beauty for the last 20 years but like many of these stories the owner is too stubborn to sell. Bill says, “I have been told it’s not for sale, and it’s apparently going to sit there until it rots into the ground. It’s rough, but it’s all there and it’s an original SS.” 1967 was the first year the Chevy Camaro hit the streets of USA. The Camaro was designed as a high performance pony car that eats mustangs for lunch and on the street and strip it did (and still does) just that. The SS (Super Sport) was its premier performance trim that was powered by a 350 mill that produced 330 horsepower. The first generation would last until 1970 when it was given a major redesign. Despite only spanning three years and being the shortest generation, first gen Camaros are among the most collectible musclecars in the world.
While this Camaro may be covered in rust, it’s still an original SS and these have become rare and hard to find. Hopefully the owner will change his mind and let someone save and preserve this piece of automotive history. When will these owners quit being so stubborn? What would be your next step to relinquish this musclecar from neglect?
