What would you give to go back in time and buy the first ’69 COPO Camaro, or the first ’69 BOSS 302 Mustang? With prices on those already rare cars through the roof these days we can only image that having car number one of those production runs would drive the value even further.
Well, if history is to repeat itself, Shane McGlaun should hang on to his new competition orange ’12 BOSS 302, because he has Car # 0001 in the BOSS production run! We recently read through an interview that Shane did with Mustangs Daily, and suffice to say it would appear that was the right man in the right place at the right time.
Shane had originally ordered a BOSS 302 through Jordan Ford in Sn Antonio, TX, but the car would not be built until the fourth quarter of 2011. He had already traded away his ’10 Mustang GT in the deal and the thought of going the entire summer without a Mustang to autocross was becoming more unappealing by the second. After relentlessly scouring dealerships and following up unanswered phone calls he finally tracked down a BOSS 302 at Prestige Ford in Garland, TX.
After working a deal for $1500 over MSRP (which is actually lower than the $5K most dealerships are marking it up) he made the deal and picked up his car. He discovered the serial number after popping the hood! Now all Shane has to do is to decide whether to use the car as he’d intended previously, to sell it to the highest bidder, or to simply keep it for posterity. We’re glad we don’t have to make that decision!
