The Volvo Amazon was a midsize sedan, manufactured from 1956 to 1970, and sold here in the States as the 122S, but we’d be willing to bet its creators never imagined that one would be retrofitted with a blown Hemi and turned into one man’s vision of a Gasser.
Thanks to the miracle invention called the World Wide Web, we came across this example on Speedhunters, which, depending upon your perspective, is either the wildest hot rod out there, or a complete disaster. We’re leaning towards the former. Despite the fact that we’re not really Volvo fans, per se, this thing just screams cool from every welded joint and seam. How about 331 cubic inches of 6-71 and dual Edelbrock carbs? Or fender-exit zoomies to go along with the spoked wire front wheels and pizza cutters hanging underneath the jacked-up nose? The Hemizon appears to be the ultimate burnout machine thanks to the super-wide rear meats and stripped interior – and who can’t appreciate a great set of green plexi windows? If you’re a Gasser fan, this one’s for you.
For those of you who can appreciate metalwork, the craftsmanship that went into this machine sure is purty. Henrik Larsson of Larsson Customizing normally builds Pro Streeters, but the opportunity came up to build this machine up, and since the vast majority of the parts were simply laying around the shop he and his team decided to see what they could make out of the pile. We think he hit a homerun. We especially like the tin gut and raw, unfinished vibe percolating around the whole car. And those meats in the back…fun. That’s what this car is. Enjoy the pics!
