Theft of a classic car is nearly heartbreaking for the owner, but imagine the pain when that classic car is a family heirloom. According to KETV ABC 7, a 1966 Cadillac El Dorado convertible was stolen from Meyer Automotive in Crescent, Iowa early Tuesday morning. Jim Brix is the current owner of the El Dorado, which had been passed down from by his grandfather.

Brix is heartbroken because of the sentimental value of the car to himself as well as the rest of his family. He had taken the car to Meyer Automotive for basic repair work, when thieves kicked in the door to the repair shop and took off with the car. These individuals also took tools, money, and keys to other vehicles at the repair shop. When Todd Meyer, the repair shop owner spoke to ABC 7, he was shocked because he has never had a problem like this since he has been in business.

Brix just wants to see his car returned. He told ABC 7, that he used to take his grandfather for rides in the car because he was wheelchair bound for the last ten years of his life. According to Brix, his grandfather was able to enjoy his prized El Dorado during these rides even though he was no longer behind the wheel.

Based on the information available, the ’66 Cadillac is worth about $25,000, but the memories associated with it are priceless. Pottawattamie Sheriffs are taking this theft seriously and are looking for leads. They have already lifted a couple of finger prints from the crime scene and are hoping to track down those behind the thefts.
