Any significant build involving an older car is going to take some time. Nothing happens in 30 minutes like they show on television, so having milestones in your project plan is a great way to keep yourself on track and avoid getting discouraged by the enormity of the project.
For this Northern California enthusiast, getting the car back from paint must certainly have been cause for celebration. The ’68 Firebird has kept the status of ‘project car’ for the past 30 months. It certainly must have looked worse than it does now during that time, and we’ve no doubt that the fresh look will encourage the owner to not leave another 30 months before things are done.
From what we can see, this is going to be a creditable cruiser. Already in place are a 350cui motor, topped with a four-barrel carburetor. Underneath, this ‘Bird sports a Hotchkis TVS suspension, full poly bushing conversion and Brembo brakes.
The classic 5-spoke wheels from Coys’ are a staggered fitment, with 18-inch rims on the front and twenties out back.
The new color for this car will keep it stealthy, but we imagine that plans for the exhaust, if not already in place, are going to reduce that stealth.
It sure looks like a great project and we wish the owner every break along the way to getting it all together. The build thread is just starting over at Pro-Touring.com, but if you want to keep track of this project, the thread is here.
