It’s Time To Gear Up–2014 H.A.M.B Drags Hits The Strip August 16th

“The H.A.M.B. Drags – Making History One Year At  A Time,” this is the mission statement for the folks putting on this back-to-the-heyday event. There are some changes this year and some event rules we’ll relay to our readers, so keep reading and get your ducks in a row for August 16th!

To give a little bit of background to those who aren’t familiar with the nostalgia event here’s an excerpt from the event homepage, “It started in the 1950s when just enough of a corn field was cleared in Asbury, Missouri for a strip of concrete, a timing booth, and some parking. As the track grew through the decades, little actually changed. Today, Mo-Kan Dragway is almost a spitting image of the track that was built in the golden era.”

One of the biggest changes for 2014 is the inclusion of pre-registered cars ONLY. That’s right, if you’re interested in racing this year the coordinators will not be taking registration day-of in an effort to mitigate traffic at the gates. “Remember, the H.A.M.B. Drags is a traditional pre-’66 drag race. Please leave your tubbed and tube chassis cars at home and bring your traditionally inspired cars instead. It’s not personal–promise!”

You heard right folks, the coordinators for H.A.M.B. Drags are sticking to their guns on this one, as they do each year. There’s a time and place for everything and this event is dedicated to an era when all you needed was guts and swaps if you were hungry for blacktop glory.

Gates open at 11:00 a.m. for spectators and admission is $10.00. Friday night, the 15th, is the kick-off party at the host hotel. In H.A.M.B. fashion, “We sit around, tell lies, and bench race.” This year Texas band, Pushrod, will be performing.
