While we talk about old-school hot rods day in and day out, the truth of the matter is that the traditional hot rod has mostly gone by the wayside. Now instead of carbureted Flathead V8s and old-school 4-links, hot rods feature fuel-injected LS and full air-ride suspensions. Tradition hasn’t totally gone out the window yet, as RK Motors of Charlotte reveals with one of its latest hot rods up for sale. After all, not everyone can drive an LS-based hot rod!
The car up for sale is an all-steel ’31 Ford coupe built in traditional style, and by that we mean without a surplus of modern amenities. What this hot rod “lacks” in contemporary components, it makes up for tenfold with traditional technique.
Chopped by six inches and channeled by four, the classically-built hot rod features an all-steel, Ford-sourced body atop a classic suspension system, integrating a triangulated 4-link with coilovers in the rear and a traditional drop axle with hair pins and cross springs in the front.
Between the front frame rails, the ’31 Ford features a time-honored 454ci big block complete with an Edelbrock steel tunnel ram intake, two Holley 650cfm carburetors, chrome velocity stacks, cast iron heads and finned aluminum valve covers. Tied to a TH400 automatic transmission, which pushes power to the back wheels via a classic Ford 9-inch rearend, the rebuilt big block produces a decent 450hp. Complimenting this powerful setup are 15-inch steel wheels, Firestone white wall tires and disc brakes on all four corners.
Both inside and out, this Gloss Black hot rod screams old school cool and would compete with any modernly-equipped ride out there, and for a fraction of the cost. At just $55,900 it’s a steal compared to the competition!
If you’re in the market for an old-school rod, be sure to check this fine example of true tradition out at RK Motors Charlotte. Chances are, you won’t be sorry!
