Treehouse of Horror: The Top 5 Cringeworthy Movie Car Wrecks

halloweenThis Halloween we have decided to change things up, instead of eating large amounts of candy and re watching Christine, Death Proof and Sometimes They Come Back for the thousandth time, we have decided do something for you, the fans. We present to you our very first Tree house of Horror special, instead of adapting the raven as a car story or telling a story about selling your soul to the devil for a nitrous refill, we present the Top 5 Most Cringe-worthy car wrecks in movies.

Honorable Mention: The Big Lebowski- In a scene from what is arguably the most quotable movie of all time (well that’s just like your opinion man). In this crazy comedy/mystery Walter (John Goodman) makes every Vette fan cringe when he takes a crowbar to a brand new cherry red 1991 Corvette C4’s windshield and headlights. In this highly vulgar and NSFW scene, Walter (who’s obliviously not a golfer) believes 13 year old Larry Sellers stole $1 million in cash which Walter, the Dude (Jeff Bridges of Last American Hero fame) and Donnie (Steve Buscemi) were suppose to give to kidnappers as ransom. Walter destroys what he believes is his brand new Vette only to find out it belonged to the neighbor.

Do you see what Happens Larry...?

5. Fast Times At Ridgemont High- This wild teen comedy defined being an 80s generation-Xer (sex, partying and being a slacker). Despite all of this fun the movie features a gruesome scene involving a hot 1979 Camaro Z28. The scene starts off awesome with Sammy Hagar playing while the audience are treated to money shots of the rugged-sexy Z28 blazing down the road. Things quickly take a turn for the worse when Spicoili (Sean Penn) is driving the Z28 stolen from his friends older brother while drunk and high. He almost gets into a head on collision but manages to swerve, only to crash into a construction site. The crash is gruesome, and it is shown in slow motion like a slasher movie killing. But before you guys crap or kill them don’t worry Spicoili can fix this.

4. King of the Road, Tales from the Crypt- A forgotten episode from the famous early 90s horror anthology series features two awesome American drag races as well as a car chase involving a snorkel hooded pro-street Chevelle and a sweet Warren Zevon soundtrack. The episode is also the ultimate car horror tale as it is a story featuring plenty of wreckage. During the finale race the ’57 Chevy beats the Chevelle driven by the villain Billy (Brad Pitt). Billy for one reason or another forgets to use his brakes after crossing the finish line and slams at full speed into a bulldozer at the end of the raceway. He ended up hitting the bulldozer so hard that his Chevelle changed years and grew a window vent. You can watch the entire episode right here. (Be warned a 1969 Charger gets wasted in the opening credits).

3. Dirty Marry Crazy Larry- This movie is really nothing but a car porno, it gives the audience almost two hours of eye candy featuring a Sublime 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. The entire movie is one giant adrenaline inducing, octane fueled car chase that features loads of 440 revving and tire screeching action. However, this movie is secretly a horror movie as we witness the Charger banged up from hitting police cars the entire movie. In horror movie fashion when you think he is getting away the car gets obliterated by an on coming train for one last scare.

2. American Graffiti- Even the greatest car movie of all time is not safe from carnage. Everyone remembers the film’s climax where Bob Falfa and his black ’55 Chevy meets John Milner and his yellow ’32 at Paradise road. The set up is perfect, two hot V-8 powered, rumblin’ American hot rods are ready to blaze down the empty back road. After toad signals the start of the race both cars scream down the road only for a tire blow out to cause the ’55 Chevy to lose control. The Chevy barrel rolls on to the grass and crashes inverted. Bob Falfa and Laurie managed to escape the car just in time before the gasoline ignites and it explodes in typical Hollywood fashion.

1. Death Proof- In this slasher on wheels, Stunt Man Mike (Kurt Russell) is a retired Hollywood stunt man who drives musclecars from hell, his awesome stories to tell – and oh yeah, did we mention that he’s a homicidal maniac who slaughters college girls? Mike commits his first homicide by crashing his “Death Proof” 1971 Chevy Nova head first into the Honda civic full of drunk college girls.

Later, three stunt women are filming a movie outside of Nashville and they decide to take a white 1970 Challenger out for a test drive and perform the sailor stunt (where one of the girls hangs from the hood by holding onto the seat belt). Mike shows up in his new 1969 Dodge Charger for a little fun. While the two Mopars are speeding down the highway He begins bashing his car into the Challenger causing the girl to fly off the hood. One of the girls shoots him in the arm and he runs off, the girl who flew off the hood gets in the car and the three of them began a game of high speed car combat which pretty much totals both of these Mopar beauties. Enjoy the full chase scene, our treat to you.

Is it just us or do Dodge Chargers make the best villain cars?

Remember these are only movies and your beloved hot rod is still safe in its garage… or is it? Before you run and go check, Street Legal TV wants to wish everyone a Happy Hellish Hot Rodding Halloween. Try not to get in too much trouble and watch out for Stunt Man Mike.
