We had the opportunity to speak with Mike Stasko at Tuff Stuff Performance Accessories, who informed us of a new product they will be releasing soon. Of the several new items that Tuff Stuff is working on at the moment, Stasko brought about their latest creation, the Shorty water pump, designed specifically for Ford Small Block Engines.
Water pumps help to push coolant through a car’s engine block, radiator, and hoses to push the engine heat away from the system in motion. A water pump is typically driven off the crankshaft pulley or the crankshaft itself.
When coolant enters the water pump, it travels through the entire engine where it absorbs the heat the combustion process produces. The heat is then brought to the radiator where it is released to the air outside the engine system.
Tuff Stuff Performance Accessories is a family-owned and operated company that manufactures quality starters, power steering pumps, water pumps, alternators, master cylinders, and power brake boosters. The company is all about attention to detail, and their newest product doesn’t fail to disappoint.
According to a press release from Tuff Stuff, their Shorty water pump features new, lightweight aluminum castings and a nickel plated, non-corroding, low cavitation impeller that provides 30 percent more coolant flow. As a result, the operating temperature of the specific application can drop a staggering 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
Stasko said these new pumps have heavy duty ball/roller bearings, center shaft, and seals for maximum reliability. A spin-balanced fan hub assembly is in place to sustain high-performance, high-revving engines.
This new water pump for Fords includes a shorter line, three different finishes, and is compatible with street rod and street machine applications.

In other news, Stasko said Tuff Stuff are pushing for a year, make, and model coding system on their website, which will help make it easier for us to search for specific parts without having to navigate their catalog aimlessly.

We were at last year’s SEMA Show to speak with Tuff Stuff about their new products. We hope they have more in store for us this year.
“We have a number of new items,” he said. “With a properly organized system, we can locate anything from power steering pumps and alternators to starters in an instant with the application that is currently under construction.”
