Recently, two rare goats were spotted rotting away in an undisclosed location by our friends at Cars In Barns. The pair of 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge’s out of commission are sitting side by side in dire need of some attention from the owner. A neighbor stated the owner claims to have all engines and transmissions for the rides, but simply has not put in the time to revive the iconic muscle cars.
The original GTO was the creation of Pontiac engineer Russell Gee, an engine specialist; Bill Collins, a chassis engineer; and Pontiac chief engineer John DeLorean. The GTO is an iconic American automobile built by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974, and by GM subsidiary Holden in Australia from 2004 to 2006. With the release of the GTO Judge, many considered this the beginning of the muscle car trend, with all four major auto makers of the early era stepping into the pony car arena with a variety of competing models.
Named after Sammy Davis Jr.’s “Here Comes the Judge” skit on TV’s Laugh-In, The Judge was a parody of the muscle car, over decorated with stripes, spoiler, blacked-out grille and goofy “The Judge” fender decals. The first 2,000 Judges were painted “Carousel Red, equivalent to GMs-speak for orange, but after that it was available in any GTO color.
From a performance standpoint, with the drop of the ’69, was that new “Ram Air IV” version of the 400. At 370 hp, the Ram Air IV had special heads with round exhaust ports, an aluminum intake manifold and a special cam. It was the most powerful engine yet put into a GTO and that makes it, by far, the most collectible of all ’69 GTOs. Only 700 ’69 GTO coupes were built with the Ram Air IV option, and only 297 Judge coupes were so equipped. Also to note, the 1969 GTO “The Judge” convertible with the Ram Air IV was the most rare, having only five produced.
One of the most collectable muscles of that era, we hope to see this pair of ’69 goats ride again roaming the American highways. One can only wonder what is taking this owner so long to get on the ball and bring these precious treasures back to life. What would you do to motivate this owner to feed this duo and breathe new life into these trail blazing goats? The video below shows the potential of what these cars can become.
