Who would expect that a car museum dedicated to car great Carol Shelby would be found off the beaten path in Boulder, Colorado? Many of us would expect that such a museum would be in Las Vegas, where Shelby’s headquarters is located, or at least in Texas where Shelby is from. However, this is not the case.
According AutoBlog.com, fellow car enthusiast Kamil Kaluski, who writes for CarGuyDad.com, ran across this unexpected car museum on a recent trip to Colorado. Initially scoffing off the “Auto Museum” sign his wife spotted, Kaluski got a welcome surprise when he found out what the museum had in store.
The museum, located in the hills of Colorado, houses the Shelby American Collection. This collection of cars, parts and memorabilia pays tribute to many aspects of Shelby’s car career. In addition to the expected Shelby Cobras, Mustangs and GT40s, the museum is also home to a Falcon Wagon used as Shelby’s parts truck and a Ferrari 410 Spider that was raced by Shelby himself, back in the day.
If you’re going to be anywhere near Boulder on a future trip to Colorado, Kaluski recommends stopping by this iconic museum.
We recommend getting directions beforehand-Kaluski posted on CarGuyDad.com that he drove past the museum three times before locating it, even though he’d driven past it earlier in the day, spotting the “Auto Museum” sign at that time. Based on the photos taken by Kaluski, anyone who gets the chance to see the Shelby American Collection is truly in for a treat.
