As media professionals we know a good marketing campaign when we see one, and this new 2011 Dodge Charger commercial is so good it’s a little bit scary. It features a snapshot of what the not-too-distant future could be like, and if a few people get there way parts of it could be a reality. In the video we follow a man waking, waiting while his breakfast blob of food is prepared (based on his his height and pre-determined ideal weight numbers, of course), watch as he is instantly dressed, and then witness him attempting to sit in the drivers seat of his futuristic car. Unfortunately for him the robot driver asks him to sit in the passenger seat in the interest of safety. Unfortunately for the robot the guy has had it, promptly decapitates the robot, and then slides behind the drivers seat.
We’re not sure shy, but this is one of those commercials that makes us want to fight someone. Correction, this commercial makes us want to fight anyone, especially if that person might stand between us and our freedoms. After watching it we’ve suddenly become away that our freedoms to choose anything and everything that affect our daily lives are gifts to be protected, not assumed. It also makes us want a new black 2011 Charger. So, in the end this marketing is doing it’s exact function perfectly; it worked on us!
