Video: A Patina’d 1951 Custom Chevy Deluxe Coupe Named Mr. Junk

Taking it and making it his own, the owner of this custom rod went all out. Posted on ScottieDTV, we get a glimpse of Mr. Junk, a 1951 Chevy Deluxe Coupe that truly isn’t a piece of junk whatsoever.

Scottie interviews the owner, who was reluctant to tell much about the beloved creation he bought four years ago. The owner said it used to be a 51 Chevy but not anymore.

Although it is not a true patina’d rod, the owner did a mighty fine job with recreating the look by doing the wrap himself. The owner said the frankenstein of a rod required a lot of metalwork and molding, which was done before he bought the Deluxe Coupe initially. He tore the car all the way down to nothing and redid the entire chassis.

The owner mentioned it was just a street car, but they modified it further, tubbing it, caging it, and dropping in a fuel cell. The top of the Deluxe Coupe has been chopped a staggering six inches, has drenched taillights and headlights, and the rear fenders were molded, shortened, and widened to give a cleaner look given they were originally bolt-on.

The owner was inspired to turn this Chevy Deluxe out because he thought the body was so cool. What’s more, the owner said TCI built a custom two-speed power glide transmission just for Mr. Junk.

The custom 555 cubic-inch Dart block looks sweet.

Under the hood rests a custom 555 cubic-inch Dart block with dual 1150 cfm carburetors. The power of Mr. Junk is rated at 800 horsepower and 758 lb-ft of torque at 5,700 rpm. A sweet air ride system gives Mr. Junk the ability to ride at any height the user feels is right.

Choosing not to settle for an exhaust, the owner had a friend build custom 304 stainless steel headers. Furthermore, his friend stumbled across diffusor plates and created a custom adapter that worked seamlessly.

He said he has the option to run open headers or muffled with the current configuration. Another cool feature about the Deluxe Coupe is light bar in the front, which are actually taillights from a 1959 Cadillac with lenses inside of them, all done by the owner.

inside

The owner’s goal was to build a car that looked ugly on the outside but classy on the inside. And he was right, the inside of Mr. Junk is surreal.

Plush and comfy, the tweed headliner and maroon seats, stemming from a late model Pontiac Grand Am, make Mr. Junk look so elegant. Taking it up a notch, the custom dash will awe those who sit in it.

With the tachometer being in front of the steering wheel, the cool part of this dash is that each gauge is mounted across the dashboard and is recessed in at an angle that faces the driver.

The tilt steering column came off a Cadillac and the awkward brake pedal is positioned where it is because the master cylinder is welded to the frame, forcing it to come up through the floor.
