There’s just something about a truck, especially an older one, that can capture your heart. Hard to say what that “something” is, but most of us know it, even if we don’t understand it. Some liken to an irrational love for an often used and abused collection of parts and aged machinery. Most people will think you’re crazy, but you don’t care. You just love that truck! Bill Ebert seems to have a similar relationship with his 1939 Dodge pick-up. Be sure to check out the video above.
The guys and gals over at No Coast Customz in New Mexico have been busy making Bill’s Dodge dreams become a reality. When found, the ’39 was in fairly decent condition, considering its age. According to Bill, the installation of the 350ci SBC had already been started. With that kind of affordable power and reliability residing under the hood, a 700R4 overdrive was sourced while the SBC was rebuilt.
Up front, a modern independent suspension has replaced the stock straight axle, while a 3-link set up with coil overs puts the power to the pavement. Disc brakes at all four corners will make sure this old truck stops as good as she looks! On the inside, plans are for a newer, re-upholstered seat to be added. Anyone who’s ever ridden in one of the old trucks can tell you , those original seats are not the most comfortable things in the world! An updated compliment of gauges will occupy the dash alongside a stereo/GPS unit and a snappy push-button Start. Bill adds, “It will be a completely clean, up-to-date interior.”
Troy Gonzales of NCC talks a little about the project, “The goal for this truck is getting everything super smooth and clean. We want everything molded and tight.” After seeing just how well executed this build has been up to this point, it shouldn’t be too hard to imagine how slick this old Dodge will look when it’s finally finished!
