Truly an odd but unique build, this insane vision of a movie vehicle will be going up for auction by Coys at their Blenheim Palace auction on July 11, 2015. We’re talking about Captain Nemo’s six-wheeled Nautilus car from the Hollywood feature film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

You’re probably wondering how does this fit in with the world of hot rods? Well what makes this car so special is what resides under the hood.

The Nautilus Car that will be auctioned has a Rover V8 engine. Interestingly, General Motors designed this engine blueprint originally, which Rover bought, redesigned, and rebranded as the Rover V8 engine.

The Rover V8 engine has been utilized in several models from Rover and numerous manufacturers since its debut in 1967. What began as the Buick 215, this engine was one of the first engine designs General Motors experimented with during the 1950s.

As you can see in the video, although it is a movie car, it is fully functional and operational. Based off a Land Rover fire tender, the Nautilus car was designed by Carol Spier.

Measuring at a staggering 22-feet long and 9-feet wide, the Nautilus car is large and in charge when it is driving around. Completed with so much style and flair, there is a lot of vintage detail put into this imaginary movie mobile.

The front end was fabricated an enormous amount of detail.

“We have a long tradition of selling film, television, and celebrity cars, and having such a cool car from such a cool film is really exciting,” , said Managing Partner of Coys Chris Routledge. “We are offering an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire one of the cars that actually appeared in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and which will undoubtedly increase in value in years to come.”

The ride height of the Nautilus car is controlled by hydraulics, giving the user the ability to drive high or low. The Nautilus car’s body shell is made of fiberglass and was intricately designed with influences from Hindu god Ganesha. Even the interior features elegant design aesthetics with its swirling emblems.

The interior of the Nautilus car has a faux leather trim and also includes the original Land Rover telemetry. Although it may be an odd car, the heart of the Nautilus car is General Motors and to see Rover still utilizing the motor today may surprise some of us.

What are your thoughts on this car going up for sale? Would you drive it or not even bother? Be sure to share a comment below.
