By now we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat trading blows with some of the best that Detroit has to offer – namely the Corvette Z06 and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – and the Mopar continues to defy expectations. But this one? Well, the Hellcat might have finally bit off more than it can chew. Or has it?
As the current top offering in Lamborghini’s lineup, the all-wheel drive Aventardor boasts a 6.5-liter V-12 producing 700 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque and is said to be able to get from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 217 miles per hour. It also showcases the latest performance technology Lamborghini has to offer, including a race-derived carbon fiber monocoque chassis and an “Independent Shifting Rod” transmission that Lambo says is both lighter and “more emotional” than a dual-clutch, both of which assist the Lambo in its 1000-pound weight advantage over the Challenger.
It looks like the Mopar has finally met its match – and it better be – you can buy half a dozen Challenger Hellcats for the price of one Lamborghini Aventador.
But speculation around the water cooler as of late has been that the Hellcat’s 707 horsepower claim is woefully underrated, with some post-dyno estimates putting the number above 750hp at the flywheel.
