The 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with the 392 HEMI engine is an awesome piece of equipment. In fact, according to the folks at Dynatech headers, “This new Challenger is already the most powerful modern muscle car we’ve tested right off of the lot at 402hp.”
That information came about as Dynatech just finished testing their new long tube header product for the 2011 Challenger SRT8 and found that the Dodge gained 19 horsepower after installing the headers, without any kind of additional tuning. Along the way, they found an additional 12 ft-lb of rear wheel torque as well.
The company was already providing long tube headers for the 2008-2010 models, with the 6.1-liter HEMI engine. The newest version for 2011 models uses 1-7/8-inch primary tubes feeding to a 3-inch collector, all in stainless steel construction.
From a performance perspective. long tube headers offer an advantage over short tube products in that superior exhaust tuning is available, which results in additional horsepower. Long tube headers typically take longer to install (5-7 hours) and may result in higher under hood temperatures. This is often resolved by having the headers ceramic coated or by using an insulating heat wrap product.
