With the world of automobiles offering limitless possibilities, this custom rat rod is an absolute monster. Posted on YouTube, we stumbled across Dady Rat, a gigantic custom rat rod that will put others to shame.
The Dady Rat was built by Johnny Stauffer, his son, and two grandsons. The huge rear tires and the body itself stemmed from a five ton military truck, which rides on an air suspension and a hand made custom chassis.
For the drivetrain, there is a 19 Liter Deutz 1159 cubic-inch V12 twin turbo diesel tractor engine, which is mated to an Allison automatic transmission, and a rearend from a school bus. What is quite an ambitious build, we can’t argue with the results as it runs and hauls down any road you put it on.
This air-cooled, no-hood V12 was said to be capable of producing 400 hp and 1,400 ft-lb of torque. That’s insane! To top it all off, Dady Rat was a product of 1,300 plus hours of relentless labor.
Seeing this baby spin is something beyond belief since it takes a lot of raw power to spin those huge tires in the rear of Dady Rat. I mean, when you have a tractor engine, the power is going to be hefty and its going to arrive fast.
Call it a labor of love if you will, but Dady Rat is no joke and means all business. The fuel tanks literally look like bombs on the custom build, giving this beast even more character.
It may seem appealing to some and disgusting to others, but the fact that this project is complete and running is an accomplishment in and of it itself. We commend Stauffer and his family for this imaginative build.
