When Ford first began installing EFI on cars back in the 1980s, it wasn’t winning over the diehard enthusiasts who were making power with their carburetors. For decades, owners of classic musclecars stood by their dependable carburetor, but as gas prices took a hike those cars weren’t driven as much.

There were a bunch of people who sought to convert their classic to electronic fuel injection, but that meant numerous trips to a wrecking yard to buy used parts with not much of a guarantee that they would work. Those who were successful had spent hours searching for those parts, and even more time installing them and figuring out the electrical part of the upgrade. When all was said and done, several hundreds of dollars had been spent, and the end result almost didn’t seem worth it, even though there were some benefits, and most people stuck with their carburetor.

Today, those conversion have been made much simpler than searching a salvage yard for the right parts. Many EFI conversion kits, like Holley’s Terminator, have hit the market and made the conversion process simple and clean. These kits include everything needed under the hood in one kit to convert a 4150-style intake manifold to the convenience and driveability of EFI. Additional parts you may need are fuel hoses, a high pressure pump, a new filter, and a pressure regulator.
