When it comes to the world of F-bodies, LT1 models are usually the ones that endure the most smack talking.
However, thanks to a YouTube video recently posted on COMP Cams’ Facebook page, LT1 fans can rejoice at a fellow Trans Am owner whooping up on an ‘06 GTO. That’s right boys and girls, even your lowly LT1 TAs have their shining moments.
The video is from 2008 and features Brian Smith in his stock ‘93 LT1 Trans Am lining up against his brother in an ‘06 LS2 GTO at Gainesville Raceway in Florida. Let me just remind you that the ’06 GTO sports a 6.0L LS3 pushing about 400hp and the ’93 Trans Am sports a 5.7L LT1 with a standard 275hp.
With odds against him, Smith beats his brother right off the bat when his brother jumps the gun, causing him to red-light. That doesn’t make Smith take it easy on the track, however. In true competition style, Smith proceeds to give it his all and still crosses the speed traps before his brother.
While you haters out there will say the only reason Smith won was because his brother had a false start, the proof of the real win is in the posted times. While Smith’s brother hit the quarter mile mark in the GTO in 13.94 seconds, Smith hit it in his Trans Am in 13.69 seconds, proving him the winner, red light or not.
So to all those smack-talkers out there, I can only say one thing- watch it and weep. Oh, and another note, if you’re going to go head to head with someone at the drag strip, make sure you know how to race. Doing so will prevent you from looking silly by getting beat by a car with about 100hp less than yours.
