Many of us would agree that the best thing about action movies are the car chase scenes. Not only do they add to the excitement of a movie, they also bring us into a world of hooning only possible on a closed course and in front of Hollywood cameras. While there are many classic car chase scenes worthy of their fame, we recently came across one on Chromjuwelen that may not be on everyone’s radar. Check out the full 13-minute long car chase scene from Fear Is the Key above.
Based on the novel by Alistair MacLean by the same name, Fear Is the Key follows a man named Talbot (played by Barry Newman) as he lives a life of crime after his family is killed when their plane is shot down by an American military aircraft. Escaping from a courtroom in which he is supposed to be sentenced for his crimes, Talbot takes the beautiful daughter (played by Suzy Kendall) of a millionaire hostage for “insurance” as he flees in an orange Ford Gran Torino.
Talbot and his hostage are faced with numerous obstacles as they flee the area, including traffic, a road block and plenty of Pontiac Catalina police cars. The defining moment of the chase comes in the middle of the sequence when Talbot jumps the Torino onto the back of a ferry as it pulls away from its dock.
If you like car chase scenes, this one is definitely worth a look. With stunts arranged by Carey Loftin, the man behind the Bullitt car chase, this scene from Fear Is the Key is perfect for your mid-week hooning fix.
