In an inverse game of tug-of-war, check out this video of dueling hot rods pressing against each other to perform a standstill head-on burnout. It’s a fun game of physics as these two machines try to push the other back-and-forth. Picked up over at the Tampa Bay Examiner, the author writes,”When you have two objects of unequal mass pushing against each other, the object of lesser mass must exert more force to push the object of greater mass.”
Hot rods are nominally lightweight, making them quick and a riotous good time to drive. The problem with that lightweight is traction. Many an overpowered hot rod have gotten squirrelly and injured – or even -killed – its occupants. So, as these two ‘rods go at it, it’s important to note how traction is key to this competition.
While we don’t want to get all high school science lab on you, it does bear noting that while one vehicle has mass to win, the other has power to overtake the other. Is it a fair fight? We don’t care. It’s just a cool video.
