New platforms can provide fresh opportunities to set records, even when you’re talking about a supercar like the Dodge Viper. The newest Gen V Viper has been around since 2013, but is now just starting to see its full performance potential realized. The guys at D3 Engineering developed their own supercharger package based on the monstrous sized F-1X blower from ProCharger, and that allowed the snake to sneak into the low 9-second zone.
D3 Engineering really did their homework in designing a bolt-on kit, which comes with all of the parts needed to install the blower, including a 5-inch pulley that can make 7 psi of boost, and is capable of making over 750 horsepower to the tires. All of this is on the stock internals, plus there are even more options available from D3 that will let you make close to 900-horse to the wheels, if you want.
The kit that D3 used on the record-setting pass was one of their fully optioned units that was able to lay down over 895 horsepower and 1,008 lb/ft. of torque during its dyno tuning session. To help put the power down, a TH400 transmission was swapped into the mighty Mopar.
Check out this video from High Tech Corvette at the Viper Nationals, where Evan Davis was able to wheel the D3-built snake to record pass of 9.43 at over 146 mph that included a 1.46 60-foot time.
