Loss for words. In what was clearly the surprise he never saw coming, one father’s jaw dropped at the sight of a birthday gift of a lifetime. Posted by S. Joseph Mann, all he wanted to do was let his father relive the muscle car era once again. Celebrating his father’s 60th birthday, he wanted to give him what he only heard momentous stories about; a 1968 Pontiac GTO.
He had only heard stories about how his father bought and paid for it with his own money at only the young age of 16. Seeing only pictures and hearing about his father’s joyous memories of driving it, he wanted to make the past a tangible reality.
Painted green with a black vinyl top, just like in the pictures. Fully restored and literally an exact replica of what his father once owned so long ago, his father was in shock and joy simultaneously.
Brought to tears, he was in disbelief that a GTO was on his driveway, pristine and fully functional. As his son popped the hood, he was simply short for words as if he was seeing a ghost.
It is stories like these that people with love for cars can tie back fond memories and pinnacles in their life. Memories are what help keep people going.
Cars are built upon memories and specific points in time. It is what we do with them that has us hold onto them so dearly. From the long drives and road trips to dates and store runs, a car can grow to be a vital life line.
Whether it is just a daily driver or a Sunday night cruiser, cars hold a place in people’s hearts. We praise this man for going great lengths to bring back what was only a wayward past for an aging father and muscle car enthusiast. Based off his reaction, we can see that his beloved GTO was not just any other car to him.
