Video: Dan Hogan’s Super Cool COE Hauler And Rat Rod

Spotted at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, ScottieDTV stumbled across one slick cab over engine and a rat rod to complete the package. Owned by Dan Hogan, check out the Hogie’s Shine’s 1953 Ford C750 COE pickup truck and a custom 1930 Ford Model A strapped in the rear.

All of the custom work on the COE was completed by All Day Fab in Phoenix, Arizona. Surprisingly, the Ford COE body was mounted onto a modern Dodge chassis, which cruises on a fully bagged suspension kit and a custom rear four-link setup in the rear. The Dodge chassis was lengthened 24-inches to make the setup operational. Dan named the custom COE the “Hogan Shine Hauler,” which serves not only for his own shop but also for his radical 1930 Ford Model A rat rod, which we’ll dive into later.

The wheels are a custom set of 22.5-inch Alcoa wheels, which were milled down to 22-inches in order to cut the holes larger. Dan had to use multiple lug adapters to fit the wheels to the Dodge running gear. Under the hood rests a 5.9-liter 12-valve Cummins inline-six cylinder turbo-diesel engine that breathes freely with a custom air intake system as dual six-inch chrome stacks expels the spent gasses. The mill stemmed from a Dodge Ram truck, which sits aback in the engine bay, it is almost invisible.

Topping it off is a 5,000-pound winch and an Optima battery powering the COE’s fully-functional tilt bed, which is fully custom sheet metal and also features a stained wood bed floor. Built specifically to haul the matching Ford Model A rat rod, which was completed four years ago as the COE was finished in 2015 before SEMA.

As for the rat rod, the 1930 Ford Model A is quite the looker as well. The Model A coupe body was chopped 6-inches and channeled to fit atop a custom hand-built chassis. Nicknamed “The Hogie Shine,” the custom rides on a traditional l-Beam front end, which was drilled and chromed. A 9-inch Ford rearend is linked to a custom rear 3-link setup and Fox coilover shocks.

Peeping the engine bay, the custom Model A houses a Ford 351 cubic-inch Cleveland engine, a 1950s style Cadillac air cleaner and scoop intake setup. Other features include custom-built headers, a set of 15-inch American Racing Astro Supreme style wheels, wrapped with Coker Tires whitewall rubber all the way around.

Heading inside the custom Model A, there’s custom upholstery, blended with sheet metal and dripped in black and gold, looking to match the stunning black and gold patina paint job on the rod’s exterior. With both the COE and the rat rod painted the same color, it’s as if the two are brothers caravanning for the long haul.

In our humble opinion, the matching set of customs make for a deadly combination that shouldn’t be underestimated. Dan’s decision to build a COE from scratch to haul his wicked Ford rat rod was a great decision that received many looks at the 2015 SEMA show.

What are your thoughts of these two unique customs? Is there anything you feel that is missing? Be sure to share your thoughts below.
