Ahh… the donut. The never-ending burnout. We’re gearheads and most of the time we love the smell of burnt rubber, the sound of screeching tires and revving engines, and the clouded view from so much tire smoke that we can’t cut it with a knife. Be that as it may, there is a time and place for such shenanigans, and neither of them include a crowded public roadway.
Some of you might think that burnouts and donuts are pretty cool, while others might think that it’s just a fast track to destroying a vehicle when you abuse it that way. For the latter crowd, this video above might just make you a little bit upset because it involves that wasteful treat of burnt rubber – but it happens in the middle of a freeway in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
As we watch the antics of a few truck owners spinning their tires and taking up three lanes on I-25, we also see a couple of close calls – specifically when the motorist with the Dodge Charger tries to squeeze by to get past this foolishness. For a few seconds we have a stalemate, and while one motorist pulls over to get some video for us, it also puts his own vehicle in a bit of danger. How many times have we seen cars stopped in traffic become the unwitting victim of another accident that follows?
We love horsepower and even the burnouts and donuts, but this nonsense is not doing anything for our hobby. If we want people to respect our hobby and our musclecars, street trucks and hot rods, then we need to share our hobby responsibly.
This is not the way to show everyone how cool our vehicles are, this is how you show them that we are irresponsible and disrespectful. Who’s with us on that? Would you make the call to turn in a couple of license plate numbers if you came upon this scene? Share your thoughts below.
