No one knows the importance of having a reliable transmission like the enthusiasts that push their cars to the limit, whether it be as a weekend racer, a pro-touring aficionado, or a hot rodding buff. That’s why Gearstar Performance Transmissions approaches their transmission builds a little bit differently. Rather than mass producing an “off-the-shelf” version of popular transmissions, they manufacture high performance transmissions built specifically for your engine, rearend gear ratio and application. They also dyno-test all of their transmissions before they leave the facility. Check out one of the many transmissions Gearstar offers for the Mopar enthusiast, the Torqueflite 727, on the dyno in the video above.
The Chrysler Torqueflite 727 transmission from Gearstar comes in two different varieties, the Level 2 and the Level 4. If you have a mildly built Mopar, the Level 2 Torqueflite is the way to go. With a Master Overhaul Kit, complete with high energy frictions and all new steel plates, Transgo shift kit, 20,000 GVW cooler, four pinion planetary gear set, updated aluminum reverse servo piston and all new internals, the Level 2 Torqueflite will handle up to 400hp and 450ft-lbs of torque. With this transmission comes a custom built HD furnace brazed converter with an 1,800-2,200 stall.
For those Mopar owners packing a bigger punch, the Level 4 Torqueflite transmission gives you added strength and reliability at higher power outputs. Features like Raybestos Generation II racing frictions, a Transgo shift kit with shift command, high RPM governer kit, four pinion front planetary with reinforced splined steel center, 300M hardened input shaft with one-piece 300M input drum high flow pump assembly, 30,000 GVW Hayden transmission cooler, and a Master Overhaul Kit with hardened Kolene steels allows this transmission to handle up to 550hp and 550ft-lbs of torque. This transmission also comes with a custom built 10-inch converter with a 2,600-4,000 stall.
Every transmission that Gearstar produces is custom built from start to finish by one of five master techs and then dyno-tested with the converter for the equivalent of 100 miles at the Gearstar facility. This insures that each transmission and converter package is operating correctly before it even leaves the company.
Gearstar’s philosophy is that building a better transmission comes from building a better company, and they have certainly done that. If you’re in the market for a new transmission for your Ford, GM or Mopar project, be sure to check out Gearstar.net for a full list of their offerings.
