There must be something wrong with us when we look forward to the latest compilation of car crashes videos on YouTube. We hate ourselves for it… but God help us, we just can’t stop watching.

Dash cams provide some of the most in-your-face views of Russian car crashes. Photos from the video.
Each crash compilation video seems to contain mostly videos from the former Soviet Union and the satellite countries. This realization caused us to wonder if there were more car accidents in Russia than any other place on the planet or if our driver eduction classes are just that good.
We did some research and found out that there are several truths that have led to the unbelievably high number of Russian crash videos on the internet. Crappy weather and poor road conditions account for many of the crashes, especially in the tough driving conditions in the rural areas where the roads are not cleared of snow and ice frequently. This naturally results in more accidents.
So why all the videos? As it turns out, corruption is huge in the Russian Federation. Their version of the highway patrol, referred to as the GAI, is responsible for the regulation of traffic and the investigation of accidents, is notorious for being thugs of the state. It’s not uncommon for Russian drivers to be pulled over and forced into paying a bride. As a result, motorists have turned to dash cams to provide some protection against accusations from the GAI investigators and any baseless accusations.
As a result of the high number of dash cams in Russia, we get a view into the rough conditions and crazy car crashes that happen on that side of the world.
