Just about any of us gear heads can remember plain as day the very first time they drove a car. That experience might of been with your parent in the passenger seat, or by yourself. For many of us, that experience was well before we were legally able to drive.
Here we see a young boy, roughly around 8 years old. He hops into a Chevy C1500 454 SS edition. From how far forward he’s sitting, it’s surprising that he can even reach the pedals. He puts the truck into drive and starts driving around the parking lot.
From the jerky motion that he’s driving around the parking lot, he doesn’t have much experience driving. We would say this is his first time driving, but then he proceeds to boil the tires like a pro. At one point he begins to move his head up and down as if saying “Hell yah Dad! Thats how you do a burnout!”
The truck can easily boil the tires. Equipped with a 454CI engine, power comes easy with a mountain of torque behind that. These trucks were the very first performance driven trucks to come out from any of the big manufactures. Debuting in 1990, they had 230HP and 385 lb-ft of torque. They were equipped with a 14 bolt semi floater rearend equipped with 3.73 gears. The suspension was upgraded to Bilstein shocks, a larger front sway bar and a quick ratio steering box.
Other upgrades were mainly cosmetic, such as a front air damn, special rims, 454 SS badging, blacked out grill, painted mirrors and bumpers. This gave into the menacing look of the trucks.
The truck in the video has been repainted, or isn’t a factory SS 454. Either way, it’s neat to see this young boy enjoying driving and boiling off the tires!
