Judging by the material we’re running across these days, it appears that Mad Max is making a resurgence in popularity of late. This may have something to do with the ongoing wait for production to get started on Fury Road, the next installment in the Mad Max franchise.
Originally scheduled to begin shooting in August, 2010, the last estimated start date put off any activity until February of 2012. Initially, principal photography was estimated at six months, although comments by Tom Hardy now place that at ‘probably nine months.’
All of this suggests that anyone looking for a Mad Max fix this year or next is going to have to make their own. You might consider building a high end home theater and running the three released titles until the CDs wear out, or you could brew your own version.
That’s exactly what Kwisatz Haderach did recently, combining the Nightrider chase scene from the original movie with some enhancements of his own, and background music courtesy of the Twelve Dolls’ song Mockba. Somehow, we’re reminded of the expression where a mediocre plan that is well executed bests a grand plan that never gets off the ground.
According to Hollywood lore, director George Miller raised money to make the original Mad Max by working as an emergency room doctor. One trusts that he would know when a project is on life support. Let’s hope that its not time to pull the plug.
