If you’ve been following the latest from Chrysler, you know that the company will be offering an optional 8-speed automatic transmission in 2012. Recently, Chrysler came out with a commercial with a 300 that seems to feature the new transmission. However, the commercial hosts some odd marketing practices to show off the 2012 option. Thanks to Autoblog for bringing us the latest on the commercial.
The new commercial really plays on the “Imported from Detroit” tag line that the company has coined. Driving the Chrysler 300C through the city and the suburbs of Detroit really appeals to the community pride of the vehicle. Key to this campaign is the new ZF-built transmission.
Contrary to what the naysayers on the Internet would like you to believe, the 8-speed is nothing new, having been a feature in the Maybach and other luxo-super cars for some time. Now behind the bellhousing of Chrysler’s new 3.6L Pentastar V6, the base 300 fetches some amazing fuel mileage, 31mpg in fact.
It was only recently that Chrysler announced that 2012 would herald the 8-speed gearbox’s pairing with the lauded 300C and Charger R/T both with a HEMI V8. The 370 horsepower, 395 ft. lbs. of torque new-age elephant-equipped cars earn a slightly less 27 miles per gallon with the new trans.
The commercial is still worth watching. Take a look and see for yourself. Who knows, the commercial may just convince you to buy a 2012 Chrysler 300C.
