Now here’s something you may not see every day: a lead sled hooning around the dirt and dust of a rally track. Decked out in some classic hot rod motifs like whitewall tires, flat black paint, and chopped roof, this is one hot rod that won’t come home looking sparkling and pretty.

All that said, however, we have to admit, this Ford really kicks ass! Then again, that’s just how they do things over there in Finland, where it goes without saying that rallying is more or less the national sport. The above video records the car’s actions as it slips and slide all over the track as part of the annual Freak Race held by the Ford-Freak Club.

There are a couple of ways to look at this video, we think. One is to consider the origins of stock car racing all those years ago, when guys like Bill France, Jr. and Everett “Cotton” Owens would race their stock cars around the sands of Daytona and dirt of Darlington, driving like mad to conquer the competition and take home the trophy. Drifting around unpaved soil was the only way to race way back when, and it still looks fun as hell here in 2014.

The other way is to imagine Doc Hudson, the old lead sled character voiced by Paul Newman from the Disney-animated flick Cars from 2006. Several commenters liken the way the Ford seen here to that of Doc Hudson’s similar driving techniques in the film, again referencing the good old days of stock car racing.

Regardless of how you perceive this video, we think it taps into that urge we all share to go drive our car around a dirt patch somewhere. How about you?
