Real life car chases that we see on the news are like the train wreck we can’t look away from. Unfortunately, we don’t speak Portuguese, but in this case the video is enough to know that what we’re witnessing is one heck of a car chase, of course filmed live at the time via an overhead helicopter and reported on by the hysterical anchors from the local news outlet. At first glance, it appears as if he might get away before he gets hemmed in by the bus and the traffic stopped in front of him. Like most criminals (and we’re not real sure why he was being chased) he then escalates the problem by attempting to kill a couple of motorcycle-riding cops in the process of making his exit.
Maybe the best part of the whole video is when the driver of the car in front of him waits for the police to get him out of the car and down on the ground before making an attempt to dish out his own brand of justice for having his car wrecked, on what was likely a leisurely drive home from work. After seeing numerous videos of this type of stuff all over television and the web over the last couple of years, we have yet to figure out what motivates a fellow to attempt to run away, but then again, maybe the statement “you can’t outrun the radio” doesn’t translate too well to Portuguese.
Regardless, it provides a few moments of entertainment for the rest of us, and perhaps instills another lesson to not do stupid things when you’re being chased by the police – it will come back to haunt you for sure. And make sure your exit route is clear – running over cops on motorcycles is bound to get you a few attempted murder charges and a definite boot or ten to the chin.
