Not long ago, it seemed if you owned a late ’70s or early ’80s Trans Am, you would have been labeled with a stereotype. We won’t mention what they are, but most owners take offense to it. But those were the old days, and now the late second generation cars are getting their due thanks to companies like Restore A Muscle Car.
They’ve been building some of the baddest cars to hit the road since they first opened their doors six years ago, getting their start in Firebird restoration. They now restore and resto-mod just about every kind of American car you can think of, but they haven’t forgotten their roots as most of their business still comes from Firebird/Trans Am owners.
Thanks to YouTube, we get to see footage of some of their latest projects. They’ve built these two 1980 Trans Ams a few months back, and they’re not powered by some anemic 301 ci. hampster wheel. Nope, these two ‘Birds still rock Pontiac power, but both spec out at a full 8.1L registering over 650 hp on the dyno.
While both cars are downright sick, it's the black car that gets the most wild treatment.
We especially dig the fact that these are built with handling in mind, the way a Pontiac Trans Am should be. They both feature a 4-link suspension, 18-inch Year One snowflake wheels, and massive disc brakes all around. The interior has remained mostly stock on both cars, however, it’s the exterior that catches our attention the most.
Both cars are already bought, sold, and paid for by an overseas buyer. By the time you read this, they will be with their new owner, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have Restore A Muscle Car to build you one (or two) just like them.
