Video: S-10 Chevy Truck Goes Drifting – LSX Engine Makes Big Noise

ls454-1You’ve been working all day on your bad machine. You went in and installed a new clutch pack into your posi. Then you went to work on that flat spot that has been plaguing you for too long. That damn carb has not been cooperating with you as of late. You are wondering, is it that damned accelerator pump cam?

You grab another one out of your box. Now, shall I install it forwards or backwards. By now you have buddies showing up. Here have another tall one. We will figure this thing out. As the night goes on, your buddy’s beers will dictate the time when it is time to do the testing.

So you go where you know you need to go. You attempt to pull off a 180. And if you know what you are doing, you go for a figure 8. Then, if everything is working right with your ride, you attempt a perfect 360. And for those of you that can remember – that is not easily done.

Fast forward to the present day, we see an S-10 Chevy pickup truck pulling to the line. Before it is time to race, he rips off a 360. Then he pulls another one just for good measure. What’s not too like?

We don’t know where in world this race is. We don’t  know whether they are speaking Japanese or whatever? But it doesn’t matter, you cannot mistake that sound. If there’s one sound that resonates around the world, it is the sound of a small block Chevy LS. What on the planet that can match it?

Who wouldn’t want to lift the hood of their S-10 and see one of these?

Once he leaves the line he throws it into a long left-hand sweeper at high speed. He then slides it through a clipping point out onto another long sleeper in the opposite direction sliding sideways and billowing smoke. We see him in some more tandem action and hanging some pretty decent angle. So we think it is cool to see an all American S-10 out there dicing it up with big smoke and power.

We can thank the Formula D series for bringing a lot more American muscle into a sport that originated in the Touge in Japan. In this series alone, we are seeing Challengers, Vipers, GTOs, G8s, Mustangs, Corvettes and Camaros. What may be even cooler could be all the LS engines that are showing up between the rails of more and more tuner cars.

OK, lets end this real quick. Take your muscle car out there and throw it sideways at high speed. And hang onto it when the next corner comes to you. A few of us have tried this and it is pretty spooky. We have heard some refer to Drifting as gay. But it just so happens that this is the fastest growing sport in the Nation today. But what do you think, Gearheads? Would you try this with your muscle car?
