Classic cars and classic rock are a great pairing, but occasionally music lovers crave something new. Ridelust happened across the group The Sheepdogs and their song “I Don’t Know,” which features the classic rock sound that when merged with a set of two-chamber Flowmasters and V8 is hard to beat.
When watching the video on YouTube it is hard to ignore the catchy guitar and the very retro vocals, but the story behind video depicts a youth fantasy of what is possible when behind the wheel of an old car. Beginning with a couple of young teens playing pinball in what appears to be a garage (complete with period correct haircuts), the music starts after one of two boys states “Man, we need a car.”
After that defining statement, the video portrays what a couple of small town kids and their adventures on the road. The story could have served as a subplot for the movie Dazed and Confused, while The Sheepdogs “I Don’t Know” would serve as an excellent addition to the soundtrack if a sequel or remake is ever produced.
As for the sound, according to Rolling Stone The Sheepdogs are defined as a “boogie rock revivalists.” Despite the specific genre “I Don’t Know” is a great cruising tune and would be a great supplement or replacement for the chronically overplayed car show standards.
