You’d be forgiven if you didn’t realize this trailer for Superfast! wasn’t actually a clip from an upcoming feature from the Fast and Furious franchise – it took your humble author a few confused seconds to piece it together. Instead, Superfast! comes to us from Jason Friedberg And Aaron Seltzer, the creators of such spoof classics as Scary Movie and Meet the Spartans, and it promises to take the street racing series, which is already often times inadvertently funny, to an entirely new level of hilarity.
With the upcoming seventh installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise opening in theaters in just a few weeks, by now the series has established some hallmark tropes. Accordingly, Superfast! not only gets the requisite Vin Diesel and Paul Walker look-a-likes, but comes complete with scantily clad women, token characters of various ethnic backgrounds, and a flimsy heist-related plot to compel the crew to get down to business. And as we all know, that business is street racing.
A bit of Google-fu seems to indicate that Superfast! has been in production (and delayed) for several years now, and it’s set to come to theaters on the same day that Fast and the Furious 7 debuts. While we’d normally consider that fitting, the timing in this particular instance seems a bit off considering that Fast 7 star Paul Walker was killed in an accident while Fast 7 was in production.
Of course, there’s also a solid case to be made that Walker would have wanted it that way. Regardless, both Superfast! and Fast and the Furious 7 open in theaters on April 3rd. Double feature, anyone?
