Video: The 2013 SRT Viper GTS Visits Jay Leno’s Garage

Jay Leno owns just about every supercar and sports car you could think of, but one that he doesn’t have is the 2013 SRT Viper. That’s because, well, it hasn’t come out yet, but that didn’t stop the late-night comedian from recently getting an up-close look at the very SRT Viper GTS that has caused such a stir in the automotive world, from its New York Auto Show debut to being on the cover of practically every automotive print magazine on news stands. Check it out in the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage above, compliments of our friends over at Autoblog.

As you know, Leno is a car guy, but what you may not have realized is how much of a Viper guy he is. Currently, Leno owns two of the Dodges, the first black Viper RT/10 convertible that came out as a 1993 model year and a 1996 GTS coupe. Of course, those Vipers were much less sophisticated than the future model now branded as an SRT, but Leno seems to love them just the same.

Showing the Viper guru around the new car is SRT Director of Marketing and Operations Beth Paretta and SRT Head of Design Mark Trostle. You’ve heard the specifications for the new car by now, from a 640hp V10 to a light curb-weight of under 3,300lbs, but these two SRT execs share a bit more insight with Leno, including the expected price hitting a bit North of $110,000 and some talk about the (dreaded for some) addition of traction control.

There's no business in the front, party in the back going on with the new 2013 SRT Viper GTS. It's all raw American supercar if you ask us.

Unfortunately, because the pilot car for the SRT Viper GTS is the only one of its kind, Leno isn’t given the green light to take it out for a test drive. There is some engine start-up action in the video, however, and the comedian does tease a test drive when the production car is officially released.

What is your opinion of the new 2012 SRT Viper? Has the new model stayed true to its street-legal, bare-bones race car roots enough or have the new “creature comforts” in the new model transitioned the killer snake into more of a luxury sports car?
