Texas, as the old cliché goes, is the home of all things big, and in the case of D’Ann Rauh and her husband Wayne, it’s home to what is the world’s largest Dodge/SRT Viper collection. The obsession started in 2006 when Wayne decided he wanted a Viper, and the couple started their search.
They found a dealership, John Gastman’s Roanoke Motor Company, in Roanoke, Illinois, who is billed as the world’s largest Viper dealer. After searching throughout the dealership, Wayne found that Gastman had a killer white/blue striped Viper on the floor, but to the couple’s dismay, the car was already sold.
After searching and searching, Gastman finally found the car Wayne wanted to purchase, and the beginning of the collection was born.
Obviously, that’s not where the story ends. On the same trip, Wayne had asked D’Ann which Viper she would have chosen if it were her decision, and she pointed out the yellow-and-black striped coupe and told Gastman to put it in the corner and cover it up, and someday she’d buy it.
Of course, you know where this is headed. Wayne purchased the car without D’Ann’s knowledge before his own Viper was even in his hands.
Since the couple has so many cars (over 100 at last count, with 65 Vipers in the collection), the intent is not to leave them in the garage but to actually drive them, which they do regularly – sometimes three or four or five in one day!
They even have a non-street-legal ACR-X Viper, that they are able to drive on their own property but not on public roads. The view inside the couple’s garage is nothing short of absolutely stunning. To see that many Vipers in one place is awesome, and it’s even more awesome that they are driven, and not just put on display. They’ve got all things Viper in the garage, even scale-sized cars and embroidered handbags! Check out the video for a neat story!
