The best part of drag racing at Irwindale Speedway’s 1/8th-mile dragstrip in Irwindale, California is that the facility promotes safe motoring while allowing diehard racers to put their best track times to the test, “This community-based program is designed to offer a safe alternative to illegal street racing, at the same time affording those participants who have real race cars and muscle cars a place to test their cars or just come out and see how fast they really are.”
Irwindale also caters to pretty much everything in terms of full-race and street legal competition, and the area’s best congregate to the 1/8th-mile strip regularly to see if they can beat their own brackets, “Racers can bring their race cars or street legal cars to the Irwindale Event Center on trailers and are allowed to run approved racing type slicks. All vehicles that participate must be either full-bodied cars, roadsters, dune buggies, Jeeps, trucks, quad runners, snowmobiles or motorcycles…”
Eighth-mile action can be found at no better place than Irwindale, and if you ask any of the track’s regulars they’ll tell you that Thursday is the best night of the week to “run what ‘ya brung,” as seen in our featured footage, “Thursday Night Thunder is our ‘time only’ night with a wide variety of vehicles participating. With heads-up action going on all night, some racers choose to pair-up with their buddies and see who has the fastest car.”
Some of Southern California’s finest examples of quick American muscle can be seen in our featured clip from Irwindale Drag Strip, pulling wheelstands and breaking records. It’s a weekly ritual, and if Thursday Night Thunder sounds like your kind of venue then be sure to have your machine tuned and ready for next week and be sure to check out http://www.irwindalespeedway.com/dragstrip/index.html for more details!
