For us hot rod enthusiasts, the ’32 is the old standby that sits perched atop its fellow Ford models for its excellent ability to always look mean and fast in any number of configurations. The guys at Passing Lanes Motors, a classic car dealer operating near St. Louis, have for your viewing pleasure this prime specimen of a ’32 Hi-Boy Roadster.
Hi-Boys have the unique feature among Deuce Coupes by way of their construction. As you may or may not know, what makes a Hi-Boy different is its unmodified stance.
Whereas some may make modifications to the suspension to lower a car’s body, in a Hi-Boy the build team makes all the traditional cosmetic/performance minded modifications such as removing fenders and quarters, raking or completely removing the windshield, and performing an engine swap while maintaining the stock ride height.
The team that was responsible for the Hi-Boy seen here did a fantastic job all around. The two-year-old paint and restoration included a completely rebuilt front end, power trunk, AutoMeter gauges, Windsor shifter, removable steering wheel, and Rocket alloy wheels.
Beyond its well-crafted demeanor, the car still manages to pack a decent punch with its powertrain too: 350 V8 with a Comp Cam, roller tip rockers, and twin 500 cfm four-barrel carbs, all pushing torque and horsepower through a 350 Turbo and out a sturdy Ford 9-inch rear axle.
As it stands, the roadster has been driven almost 1500 miles on its new legs, and doesn’t appear any worse for wear. All you’d really have to consider is the price tag, which sits at $27,950. Too much or just right? Leave your thoughts below.
