Years ago, nobody would expect a Jeep to be considered a performance vehicle… at least when it comes to performing on the asphalt. These days however, when someone mentions that it’s an SRT-8 we at least take a second look before making our educated guess at how the once off-road oriented platform will perform in a racing application.
While some may be aware that the SRT-8 is a kick ass vehicle, few would believe you if you told them that you saw one whoop up on a v10 Audi R8. Maybe after you went over the modifications, they’d be more inclined to take your word for it.
From what we’re told, this particular Jeep is equipped with a twin turbo setup accompanied by nitrous. Even in all motor form, we’ve seen jeeps like this move out. We were quite interested in seeing how hard the boosted truck would leave the line. The video tells us that it’s making 1100HP which makes us fear that a hard launch could alter the Earth’s rotation.
Even though it is facing off against a car that makes half the horsepower, maybe power to weight ratio could save the Audi, right? That would work if the Audi weighed as much as your nephew’s go-cart. When we see the Jeep utilize it’s AWD system to pounce off the line, we know from the beginning that the race is pretty much over. The Jeep ends up taking the Audi by a quite sizable margin. Rumor has it that he drove straight from the track to pick up the kids from soccer practice.
