Ralph Gilles and the rest of Chrysler’s SRT Team held a party recently at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, CA, for the rollout of their new ’12 SRT models. Recently appointed to head and revitalize the SRT lineup, the results were on parade at the event – all packing the new 6.4-liter HEMI engine.
With 470 hp and 470 ft-lb of torque available, these cars will sing any song that your right foot wants to, and someone from the SRT team decided to prove it.
They brought out a brand new ’12 Challenger SRT-8 and proceeded to recoat the hot pit lane at Willow Springs with a new layer of rubber.
There was nothing tentative about the display, as you’ll see in the video below. Stopping short of blowing the tires, this particular Challenger wasn’t going to do any on-track duty that day without spending some time on jack stands first.
In addition to the new engine, the ’12 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 features a standard Tremec TR-6060, six-speed manual transmission and a dual-disc high performance clutch. Both are proven performers that were first offered on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10.
New with the 2012 models is an active suspension system with selectable Auto and Sport modes. Drivers can easily choose between settings to change the shock damping and harshness characteristics, with Auto for everyday commuting and Sport for more spirited driving situations. In Sport mode, the damping system rebound and compression is locked to a higher damping rate.
